Alex Johnson has been engaged in the practice of law in Baxley since 1978. Prior to establishing his practice here, he was associated with a law firm in Calhoun, Georgia. Johnson’s practice has ranged from a sole practitioner to a five member firm with offices in Baxley and neighboring Hazlehurst.

Johnson received a BBA in Finance from the University of Georgia College of Business Administration. He is also a graduate of the University’s School of Law, where he was a member of the Georgia Law Review. Johnson is admitted to practice in all Georgia state and federal courts. His areas of practice are business, real estate, banking, corporate, probate, and municipal law. He has maintained a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rating for over thirty years.

Alex is proud to have represented many clients for more than forty years, and now represents the third and fourth generations of numerous client families. He has been counsel to the City of Baxley and Development Authority of Appling County since the early 1980’s, and Community Bank of Georgia since its formation in 2005. Other long-time clients include Wiggins Family restaurant and hotel interests and Woody Folsom automobile, land, cattle, farm equipment, and retail ventures. Alex is approved for loan closing by local, state and nationwide lenders. He is also a long-time policy issuing agent for First American Title Insurance Company.

He was elected as a director of the former Baxley State Bank in 1982 and continued as an advisory director after its acquisition by Trust Company Bank. He was also a member of the board of directors of SunTrust Bank of Southeast Georgia (Brunswick, Waycross, Jesup, Baxley) for eighteen years; and is now a director and executive committee chair of Community Bank of Georgia.

Johnson was elected three times as Solicitor of the State Court of Appling County, serving from 1983 to 1993, and served as Judge of the Juvenile Court of Appling County from 1993 until his retirement from public service at the end of 2024. He is a former vice president of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association; and State Bar activities include former service on the Disciplinary Panel and Board of Governors, serving on various committees. He has also held numerous church, civic and community leadership positions.
Alex married Judy in 1978, and they have two sons, daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren.
