Our History
Serving Baxley and Southeast Georgia since 1978.
For nearly five decades, JohnsonFloyd has grown alongside the community it serves—expanding its practice, its people, and its impact across Southeast Georgia.
1978
A Practice Returns Home
J. Alexander Johnson returns to Baxley and establishes Johnson & Durden with Bruce Durden in the former Peoples State Bank building. After early experience in Calhoun, he brings his practice back to his hometown, laying the foundation for what would become a long-standing legal presence in the region.
1980s–1990s
Expanding the Practice
The firm evolves through a series of partnerships, including Wilkes, Johnson & Smith, with offices in Baxley and Hazlehurst. Over more than a decade, the practice grows in size and scope, reflecting the increasing legal needs of the surrounding communities.
Following additional transitions, the firm continues as Johnson, Smith & Knox before returning to a solo practice under Alex Johnson.
1981
Transforming a Local Landmark
Johnson acquires the property at 132 West Parker Street—formerly a Gulf Oil service station—and converts it into a law office. Fuel tanks are removed, service bays are filled, and the structure is expanded, creating a permanent home for the practice.
The building remains a defining part of the firm’s identity today.
2009
Expanding into Litigation
Graham F. Floyd joins the firm, bringing a focus on litigation and contested matters. His addition complements the firm’s existing strengths in business and transactional law, marking a significant step in its evolution.
2013
Building Together
Graham Floyd becomes a partner, formalizing a collaborative approach that expands the firm’s capabilities across both litigation and advisory services.
2025
Strengthening the Team
Madeline Rentz-Tucker and Andrew Peacock join the firm, reflecting continued growth and a commitment to serving a broader range of legal needs across Southeast Georgia.
